Painted Branches // Dining Room Decor

So, knowing me, I always love to change things up. Pretty much all the time, especially when I'm sitting around the apartment doing absolutely nothing. That's pretty much when I come up with ideas to do things, i.e. move furniture around, change artwork, decorate pillows, make blankets.. whatever comes to mind, I'll do. Cody has come to the point of when he comes home, he just asks what I have changed or what new project have I decided to start doing. In a weird way, I like it. It keeps my creative juices flowing, but being 8 months pregnant, sometimes I find myself in a bad 'I can't lift this' situation. So, I've been having to take a little bit of a chill pill on rearranging furniture. But, that hasn't stopped me from moving things from one place to the next. 

ANYWAYS, I was out walking our dogs the other day and I just decided that I wanted to take a few branches inside and paint them, especially since I have paint and brushes sitting around not being used...so technically it was a free project for me. This branch is the only one that I decided to keep because all of the other ones turned out just not right. This piece works perfect in our dining room and definitely pulls the curtains in together.

Bits and Pieces // Dining Room

Our dining room is basically a cluster of whatever I feel like putting on the table and on the walls at the time. I'm still in the process of finding artwork and printouts because I am considering starting gallery walls with the empty space in there. I love any kind of artwork to put on the walls, but finding what works in our home has been challenging. When we first moved in together, I didn't really care or pay attention to what we got, which ended up being the wrong thing to do because most of this stuff I don't like or that I can get stuff that I like to work together. So, through a long process I will wean that stuff out and bring new stuff in. 

We don't usually use our dining room to eat in, it normally functions as my office space when I work from home. But, with a baby on the way, we want to start using it as a family dining room. Eventually, when we get a larger space I want to get a bigger table, so we can old our own events such as friendsgivings and family Christmas'. I'm really looking forward to the future.

Dining Room Make Over // Fresh Coat of Paint

Originally, this room was a blue-ish gray color. It kind of clashed with our grey counter tops, so, Cody decided that he wanted to paint it white. So, away we went and spent the afternoon painting it. It looks absolutely fantastic.

1. A fresh coat of paint can change a room.

2. White paint can really open a room. A lot.

This room is a really large room. It isn't supposed to be the dining room. It's supposed to be a formal living area, or an area to entertain guests while you're preparing food in the kitchen. I wanted it to be like a sitting room, but it wasn't exactly plausible. But, I like it as our dining room, because our actual dining room is our office and connected to our living room. 

Our house was built in the 70's, so it's layout is interesting. I'll have a full home tour soon and that will go in depth of the layout and how it all works. But, basically, it is a 2 bedroom 2.5 bath, with the half bath downstairs and both the bedroom upstairs with their own bathroom. I like that a lot, especially when we have guests, no one needs a reason to go up there. But, the dining room in this house is the least used and the kitchen the most. It's just how it happens.

The white really brightens the room, a lot. Which is extremely important, at least during the day because there is no ceiling fixture for this room, at all. There is this giant window that lets in plenty of natural light, and I love that. But when it was blue-ish gray, it was no where near as bright as it was white. 

And I think these flowers ad the perfect touch.

Color and light does a lot to a room. It will either make it small and dark, or light and big. Personally, I love white on walls, it makes it easy to do whatever you want to the room. Just my opinion. 

Oh, and here is the close up of our amazing clock, I love it so. Sometimes, you can find pretty awesome things when you least expect it. Keep your eyes peeled.
